What sort of basket can you attach to those whisbars, how solid are they and how much all up do you reckon?

Most baskets would fit with suitable clamps. I have made up my own clamps that slide into the channels and bolt down for various items I carry. Rated at 100kg, they are really solid as they mount to the factory points. Image below is loaded (not heavily) with shovel, recovery tracks, tent, awning and rod holder tube. I would not hesitate to put my extra spare wheel and additional jerry cans up there also, if-when needed.

I would be using a cover for the max trax or whatever trax you have on the roof. If rarely used, the UV will degrade the top unit and make it break when used, leaving only one available for recovery.
That will then make any recovery very unbalanced and possibly not successful.

I have seen them badly faded but most things are uv stabilised these days, the problem with Maxtrax is the bag costs 130 bucks! the equivalent Treds bag is 30 odd!, 'spose you could make one, or use a garbage bag if funds are tight.

Extra Lights - Need cost effective additional lights ... do yourself a favour and add these, ebay 7" HID 55w offroad light. I have one spread and one spot. The best $84 dollars (that was for both delivered to my door) I have spent yet, although the wiring loom it came with was a bit ordinary, so I made up my own. They throw out a ridiculous amount of light regardless of the cost. Think I will upgrade the headlight lows to hid as well soon, to match the white light at 5000-6000k colour temp. (PS that bottom image is early morning dew, I suppose could have wiped em off for photo, oh well...)

UV stabilization is great IF it has actually been applied and not only applied to the writing of the supplied instructions.
Many recovery treads have broken and just crack to pieces. So the trust in saying, " all items are UV treated" is a bit trusting in my view.

If you have them in the full sun and then have to use them AND they then break, I suppose that is a good test of the UV inhibitor being present or non existant. It just happens at the worst possible moment when you need them the MOST.
Again, just a comment to warn people so they DO NOT GET CAUGHT out unaware.

Same ebay seller link here, but not exacts set I bought. Mine was a combo (one spread, one spot). Price is up too. Search ebay, heaps on there...

Thanks mydmax. Good tip. I am sure to have a some sort of cover I can slip them in. I agree "UV treated" ... yeah right!
