Only having one of them would make me a bit nervous about sticking my noggin under there.

I think I can see why they may only have one, the passenger side inner guard has no real support under it where the front guard bolts down and the strut would attach, not nearly enough to support a bonnet, the driver's is well supported though.

Keep us informed on this one mate.

Went to fit it up today.

Bit dodgy the assumptions for fitment. They provide 2 bolts and they have a picture where you re-use one bolt that the horn is held in by, to attach the bottom bracket. The horn that sits up next to the ABS unit and pipes. Except there is no horn there, so no bolt to re-use. I had to supply my own bolt. No big deal I suppose.

Main problem is the gas strut. It's "locked" open. I can't for love or money compress it into the body. I need to compress it about an inch so that it connects to the brackets top and bottom. I reckon if I had a mechanical press, I'd be able to perhaps 'crack it' for the first time?? Do these kind of rods twist and lock into the body perhaps? I've tried twisting with no luck too. Any thoughts here?

The MY15's have the horn there.

They won't lock but I'm not surprised you can't compress it, there's only one of them and the angle it has to push the bonnet up requires a lot of force. You'll have trouble compressing the strut that closes the screen door on your house!

there anything you can loosen off to get it in? maybe the bonnet hinge or something, just have to leave enough threads in to re-tighten?

Keen to hear how this turns out.

Got it fitted. Wrapped the rod in some cloth and put it into my bench vice. I could then twist the body freely. Still no luck pushing the rod into the body. So I gently tapped the end a few times with a wooden mallet and that seemed to have done just enough, such that I could push the rod in. Took a lot of force, which I suppose is correct, given it's holding the bonnet up!

Can hold the bonnet open at most angles up to about half way, it just sits there open and doesn't move. From about halfway up, the gas lift takes over and it opens on it's own and stays open.

Fitted on the left hand side near the ABS unit. That's where people fit their Provent units. That might be a problem for some....

Image

Top bracket. Actually two brackets one either side of the bonnet mount and a single high density bolt and nut holding them together.

Image

Bottom bracket. The instructions had a horn attached there and to re-use the bolt. None in my year model, but as Danno says, MY15 has the horn there and thus bolt to re-use.

Image

Plenty of space past the ABS pipes with the bonnet closed.

Image

Will see over time how it all holds up. Being an Isuzu, the bonnet isn't opened much. Only for servicing and filling wind-shield washer reservoir! :D

If you get a chance could you take a pic of that from the master cylinder side for me, and directly down if possible? it's not the Provent that'll stop me, I think it will be my g/box breather manifold which will be a pita to move.

When the gas struts fail if you put a tweak in them where the rod goes into the cylinder when open they tend to stay open and still work as they should
done it to many bonnets and it keeps working never seen them fail after doing this trick

Hey Pete. What do you mean by a tweak? Like a notch, or a bend of some kind?

Just bend them , With bonnet fully up push towards bonnet from bottom of cylinder doesnt need much
and works as normal
