Hi all,

I've had a search and a look and have seen discussions about the manual transmission issues like synchros (4th, 5th), notchy 3rd gear (sounds like in my 2003 Rodeo...) and the weird howling noises coming from 1st and 2nd. Not to mention the low OEM clutch life (~50k).

However, I can't find any specific issues with the Automatic transmissions.
Are these generally pretty solid?

I'm looking at buying a space cab (year 2008 - 2012 vintage) and sounds like the auto is more reliable...
Was originally looking at 2012 - 2015 (just before the DPF) but the shock tower cracking issues and CV joints failing have put me off. Hoping the earlier RC would be tougher.

Any info appreciated.

Kramer

Kramer, do yourself a favour and have a test drive in an auto, they have come a long way from the 80's and 90's boxes.

They are better for towing and from reading they are better for sand etc.

I would not have another manual even if it was given to me.

Thanks Bob, are you referring to all D-max manual boxes or just the ones after 2012?

Are the 2008 - 2011 manual gearboxes ok or do they have the same issues?

My 2003 rodeo manual box has a 3rd gear synchro issue but the car has done 340,000+ km so that's understandable.

The reason I ask is because there are so few cars with auto boxes available on the market in the 2008 - 2011 period.

Thanks
