Anyone installed or know of someone who has installed E-lockers on thier D-Max, wondering how they interact with the traction control system, I would have thought they would fight against each other.
Cheers

Just thinking out load as I am only guessing but doesn't TC need a wheel to spin freely to engage? Whereas with a locker, the idea is the wheels don't spin freely? So shouldn't fight each other. Over to the experts.

Just turn TC off; then no possible chance of it interfering.

My xr6t has both LSD and Tc/DSC. Tc is designed more for taking off in slippery conditions. DSc to keep you pointing in the right direction around corners.
Under full power around a slight bend both wheels will spin, vehicle will kick sideways until dsc kicks in.

I would imagine with an e locker in the dmax the Tc wouldn't sense a difference in wheel speed between the wheels on the same axle and therefore not kick in

I am seriously contemplating fitting one of these Eaton E-lockers in the rear of my D-Max.

I got a quote from Harrop Engineering who are the distributors/suppliers to places like Opposite Lock.

They quoted for the parts only for either front or rear at $1650 (inclusive of GST) plus freight. So maybe $50 freight to make the parts $1700. I haven't contacted Opposite Lock, I'd imagine fitting one may cost around the $300 mark or so?

Tempting!

If you buy it through Opposite Lock you might save yourself the freight, but don't let them fit it, take it to a diff/gearbox specialist, you don't want a pimply faced teenager with a nose ring putting your diff together.
If you can pull the diff out yourself which is quite simple on the back, you should get away with it for under $300.

I'm putting one in the back and considering putting one in the front as well but that front diff looks very complicated to get out so the back might have to do. Front would be preferable to make up for the limited wheel travel.

Ssb, you're right the TC will only kick in when the ABS system detects one wheel spinning more than the other, so if both wheels are locked up and spinning at the same speed it won't interfere, but the front will behave as normal, which means near bloody useless as soon as it sticks a wheel in the air.

Cheers.

the forum should look at a group buy from the US, i saw on a Jeep forum they were buying them for less than a grand, landed.
obviously a different unit, and the dmax might simply cost more, but worth a look for serious buyers.

I think you'll find Ron Harrop Eng. brings the Eatons in from the US and modifies them to fit the locally sold vehicles, DMax, Ranger and whatever. Jeep etc. are of course yank brands and Eaton make units to fit them straight from the factory.

Cheers.

Yeah its a shame, the hassle would have been justified by the potential savings.

The fuel filter cartridges I use are $90 here and $19 over there, by the time I land them here they work out to $33..
