I have seen inside one and it's a completely hollow single chamber, any liquid that gets in there will go straight down the tube to the axle which attaches to the lowest point of the unit.

So looks like it's nothing except a reservoir for oil that gets pushed up the tube, then can fall down again. Strange.

Spoke to Major motors and got woody the dmax whisperer on the line the black box behind the headlight is basically just an expansion chamber. It was put there as the previous models had their breathers come up near the fuel filter and sometimes they would weep due to expansion and customers would see this and think the had a fuel leak
Front diff heats up and excess oil goes into chamber then runs back down again when cooled there is a 1 way valve at the top to stop water getting in

The other 2 lines are as Danno said axle breathers and they are the ones that terminate at the little black bag beside the air box

Hope the bloke who parked his D-Max in the Brisbane River this morning had extended breathers installed!

They did ........... and it broke. Surprise, surprise :D

Tink

Edit. I read the above on FB but just now saw a newspaper photo and there is a large chain going through both rear windows (and they have used padding) to which they have attached their winch.

Yep - they did and the video of it was mind blowing! Mind blowing because both the rescue guys that hooked it up and the tow truck operator that went along with it are all incompetent fuckwits for doing it!

Ben.

So finally getting around to extending the front diff breathers. Has anyone bypassed/removed the little plastic box behind the driver side headlight and run the piping straight up to a breather? or have they just extended the top tube out of the box. I have read people have joined all 3 together and run that to a breather.
Cheers Ian
