I won't be able to really notice if the new oil makes a difference. I'll be chopping and changing too much....camper on/camper off...no sides on the tray. Anyway...it is what it is...it's never been great.

Normally I travel around steep hills where the fuel gauge is fairly random. But I've just answered the question "is it reliable on flat ground?"
Short answer - not.

I just put 76.52 litres in my tank. I was travelling on flat ground. The fuel warning light had been on for ~60km. The fuel gauge was showing low, but far from empty. How do I know? In my SX the dash display is different from most of you rich blokes, but there's a bar that is longer with more fuel, shorter with less, and toward empty the last dot flashes. In the past, I've driven 50km with the last dot disappeared, and on filling, found several litres in the tank. (like, it's full after 70 litres). This time, it was still flashing, not disappeared.

So, fill before you need to, even if you don't need to.

On a side note, with a tray canopy that sticks up above the car's roof, + bull bar & snorkel, sitting on 110 and 100km/hr (real, not by the speedo), I've just done 700km getting 10.1 litres / 100km, and another 700 getting 10.4. My overall average, for 70,000km is 10.25.
