G'day all,

New member, about to order a 4x4 D-Max. This'll be my fifth 4WD; in order:
1976 Suzuki soft-top for 7 years (remember them 550cc 2-strokes clogging up the roads at 85 kph?),
1983 2 door Jackaroo petrol for 16 years (and they even had LSDs back then!),
1999 4 door Jackaroo petrol for 6 years,
2005 Prado diesel for 10 years.

So had withdrawals for the last 3 years and have decided on a ute rather than another in the above lines.

Cheers,

H.

G’day Harry
Me too from Vic, a good state to be in except for the Premier.
A new Dmax sounds good.
The little 3 cyl Susie’s were good vehicles, go anywhere. I fixed a couple of engines years ago.
I have had a diesel LC and now a 2011 Dmax since new.

What sort of use are you going to give it? Some mods probably needed if using off-road or carrying loads all the time.
Decided on a colour yet?

Cheers

Hah! Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the fumes from the old CCI Suzuki engine (no shortage in the soft top of course!). Go anywhere on those skinny bar treads too. Used to go pigging up near Hay, and in the Piliga scrub out of Coonabarabran in it (a big drive from Melbourne at 85/90 kph - ask me how I know...).

The D-max will be my only wheels, so for trips it'll be the usual Vic stuff (alps), and then into Outback Oz. No towing, as it'll be swag or tent. I hear you re the mods. The ARB catalogue is a scary place. Probably leave the suspension alone, and do Toyo OPAT IIs for starters. Step tow-bar, recovery points F & R, decent under-body protection to replace the tin foil 1.5 mm factory fit, snorkel, HPD catch can, 2nd fuel filter, TPMS, and spray-on polyurethane lining for the tub. Not a fan of the drop-ins. Probably a canopy and LR (plastic) fuel tank as well.

Colour is an interesting question, mdm - what's the cunning plan there?

Cheers,

H.
