Hi
I am changing the outer left side cv boot as there is a tear and the grease is going every wear. Would the outer cv joint be easy to come out so I can clean and pack it with grease. Cheers Ross

The hub drive plate cap and circlip underneath, along with any shims there has to be removed to get the cv bell shaft out of the hub.
To take it out you will have to unbolt the lower ball joint from lower arm. Take care, there is a suspension spring forcing it down and appropriate precautions must be taken for personal safety. Then it should be relatively straighforward to work the cv bell to an angle where the cv can be removed from the bell. There is a circlip holding the trunnion and ball unit to the shaft. After that the old and new boot can be slid off/on the shaft. Cv can be repacked and the new boot eased over the cv bell.
When easing the boot over cv bell, make sure it is dry inside the boot at the sealing edge and dry/clean at rim of bell. Any grease allowed to remain or trapped between the boot and bell will cause it to squirm and come off even though it has a band around it.

Replace and tighten the lower B joint after reinserting cv bell into hub. Good time to grease the inside the hub where cv shaft goes in just before inserting. Replace the shim and circlip and replace the drive cap.

Hi mydmax
I have the outer cv axle out of the hub, but can't take the bell off to replace the new boot and repack the cv joint.

If you make the cv action bent, as in high angle of drive, maximum, one trunnion ball will/should, pop out of the CV bell. Remove the trunion ball and bend it the other way and pop out another. When a couple are off the trunnion cross it should be able to be removed.
At the end of the shaft next to trunnion cross/spider there should be a circlip to allow it's removal and cleaning of parts and replacement of new boot.

Keep ALL parts which have worked together in order, so they go back in exactly the same place and have the same working surfaces together again.

Good luck.

PS, when fitting the band onto the new boot ensure it's lock tail is on the trailing side of normal rotation. RHS boot band tail to rear when at top.
