hello, regarding 2012-2016 dmax, the warning light with the squiggly lines under is the ESC (electronic stability control) warning light, it flashes when its activated. this is the gizmo that retards engine rpm when you lose traction sometimes and is automatically turned off when you go into low range 4wd. you can also turn it off manually with the button right of the steering wheel as well as the traction control. Check the manual page 4-100 when its turned off it lights up with an extra OFF underneath. the light comes on when you start the engine and stays on for 3 seconds. and its not usual to stay on for a little while longer. The esc light will also come on if battery voltage gets too low, i remember it staying on longer when my old battery was on the way out. The new battery fixed that.

The stability control may not retard engine output as it's function is to activate the ABS pump so individual wheels can have their brake applied to provide a correction to loss of stability. Engine output might be needed to be the same at the instant of correction.
The Traction aspect of that integrated control may retard engine output if traction is lost. The ABS system uses the ABS to brake other wheels so power goes to the wheel with most grip and less spin.

The Light comes on when the battery is sus or the voltage is down somewhat, because the system relies on an instant high current draw electric motor and it's speed of be able to make brake pressure in an instant, to provide both stability and traction control functions via prompt braking pressure. If large instantaneous current is not available, then both those systems through ABS cannot work very well and will be slower or far less in action and loss of stability would result. Therefore, it tells you something is not as it should be.
