A tip for strange noises.

Post by Silver05 »

As per my post in servicing...I thought I would post here also. I had a 'clunking' sort of noise that I thought was coming from the suspension on the passenger side but just could not pinpoint it. I though it was suspension noise as it happened over bumps with just a slight delay and annoyed me no end. A similar but quieter noise was coming from the rear drivers side but sounded like it was almost outside the cabin at the rear.
Anyway...when I had my car serviced today the young fellow came for a drive with me and was straight onto it....the bushes the cabin is mounted on sometimes come from the factory with not enough grease in them and so he undid them...there are 3 each side... jacked it up and did whatever and all the noises are gone. It is surprising what a difference it made really.
All my Dynamatting is coming in to it's own now. :D

I get a clunking on the drivers side when pulling away from a stop. I can feel it more through the pedals than actually hearing it. I get 3-5 clunks and that's it until the next time I come to a stop. Happens about 75% of the time, so it is pretty annoying. Doesn't matter whether I am on flat ground or an incline.

Anyone had that?

Maybe it is the same issue as you Silver05?

I'm nearly due for my 10K service, so I'll get them to check the bushes.

Found the cause of the noise/clunk.

The hard line that runs from the brake pedal to the brake system had about 1/4" of slop to slide back and forth in the clips that run along the inner guard.

A careful 'tweak' of the hard line where is bends at about 90 degrees up near the brake distribution box removed the slop and the noise/clunking is gone! With it happening nearly every time I pulled away from a dead stop, it is bliss now that it is gone. :)
