Seatbelt Warning bell

Post by mustangdude »

Yes I disconnected the seatbelt warning bell, on both seats.
I realize that many owners would want this feature, but in my case it was annoying so I disconnected it.
I need to carry heavy stuff on the passenger seat as well as drive around on private property so it was the cure for me.

Simply get a torch & look under the front of the seat, there's two connectors visible. Disconnect the small white one only.
It's easy to re-connect if you wish.

Thanks for that one mustangdude.

We live in a lifestyle village and I often need to drive over to the caravan storage area or go and check the mail all at 8kph - it is a PITA to need to put on the seat belt for these short slow drives all on private property.

Will have a look tomorrow. :D

Just be aware that disconnecting this could interfere with the pretensioners on the seat belts and could possibly void warranty, insurance etc.

Better option is to plug the seatbelt in or get a loose buckle and plug that in.

Bob
You be careful driving with no seatbelt on at 8kmh, you could get hot by a high speed golf cart and they pack a punch, let alone the shower of golf clubs with it.
Have you got a bike?

Do the seatbelt warning lights still come on? I would have thought the pretentioners were activated when the seatbelt was plugged in. I doubt one little easy to get at connector under the seat would shut the safety system down on that side.

Do they have pre tensioners on the seatbelts? Are there wires going to the base unit? If no wires then there probably isn't any tensioners activated by electronics. Could be, maybe not.

Has anyone looked and knows or are the comments just presumptive?

Yep, they have pre tensioners. I think pretty much all new cars have them now, with a few exceptions.

That's a good point about the seat belt pretensioners.
The seatbelt warning lights on the dash don't come on with this mod.
It may not be the connectors for the seat belts at all.
Infact when I disconnected these wires, I assumed it was the deadman switch in the seat that was disconnected but I can't confirm that.
