Hi All, Hoping you can help. My battery of the DMAX keeps draining. I have taken it to 2 auto electricians but so far they came out scratching there heads and charging my wallet. So far i have:-
* Replaced the dual batterries
* Replace battery charger
* Rewired the batteries cable
When I take the car out for a 40min drive or more the car will restart but only within 24hrs. However if i jump start the vehicle got to the store and back the battery will be dead immediately after turning the car off.
I have kept the keys well out of range of the vehicle just in case the car is trying to search for the locking issue but still thinking it might be the problem. Anyones help on this issue would be appreciated.

Which battery? Cranking or auxillary?

Replace both- first replaced the the crank first and just replaced the secondary battery.
When the electrician puts his reader on it- it doesnt show any drain.

Lovethebush.
I can only go on the scant info you have shown.
However, has anyone actually read the battery voltage BEFORE you try and start it? either with old and new battery installed.
Have you isolated any additional battery charging systems and begun from there without it being attached to the start battery system?
If the Auto elec tests for drain on a discharged battery, as you indicate it to be, then there will be little or NO parasitic discharge. Not sure what is happening there!
Has the Auto elec tested the alternator output while it is running to verify charging rate and voltage attained?
If you switch OFF at the shops, what is the battery voltage immediately you stop?
If the problem is present when the additional charge device is charging the aux battery, does it switch off when either aux charged and also when the engine is turned off.
If an auto elec on the spot cannot find the fault, then a far more competent auto elec is recommended.
It cannot be charging at full output and have a blow diode in the alternator. maybe a diode is shorted and only around 1/3 of max charge current is being produced. Usually that would also show in a parasitic current draw test and indicate path to negative. If the battery is charging AND full battery voltage is reached, maybe disconnect the neg lead to battery and wait overnight and reconnect to see if the battery is still charged.
Sounds like some relatively simple diagnosis ability is missing here.
Does the alternator grumble when engine running?
Is there a whine in the head unit audio sound?

I'd pull the fuses one by one and check each circuit for parasitic drain using a multimeter which has a 20A current measuring capacity.
And if anything electrical has been added recently I'd start with that circuit, particularly if the new component was a security system or head unit.

Hi Mydmax, I'm going to print your response and take to the auto electrician- wish you where local i probably would have taken my ute to you.
I'll let you know how i go, hopefully we get a break through. If not will do what you suggested find another auto electrician.

Hi Mike C, I'll test that out- would be good if thats what it is.

LTB
If it is a parasitic drain then it will show if tested for, correctly. Then as Mike mentioned, perhaps test each fuse point, fuse removed, to see if current is flowing when not supposed to.
That process is about as basic as you can get.
If the Auto elec finds, no parasitic drain, then some other major component must be at faut, again, an Auto elec should find that in less than 5 minutes. It is their task in in life after all.
IF the serviceable battery is still charged and able to start but cannot do it, then it has to be starter solenoid related or cable terminals not conducting start current. Alternator already mentioned above.
Where are you on the planet?
