Savannah Way
Re: Savannah Way
Hi Dave, I have travelled the Savannah Way a few times last 2013. So firstly lower your tyre pressures to about 27 lb cold and take your time, watch out when crossing rivers, not the height of water, for large rocks etc. and also wash outs. If you go in Lorella Springs go even slower has lots of sharp small rocks.
But it is a great drive I think probably better than the Cape, Butterfly Springs is a good over nighter and the Tomato Island NP down the track from Roper Bar is another good spot, great hot showers etc.

Ahhhh..the green highway...or is it gold now? a real eye opener, and good old Doomadgee just nearby...a wonderful place to find out how fast your DMax can go, managed to get our Hilux up to 145k's through there waving a 30 30 out the window last time through...it worked, no rocks through the windscreen, lovely place and a real highlightdlncooke26 wrote:Hi Guys, looking for a little info, We are planning on doing the "Savannah Way" trip next year and was looking to

Re: Savannah Way
Interesting subject, what about taking an on-road van. Is this sealed all the way as the few spots I "Street Viewed" showed single lane bitumen.
2014 LST Ash Beige. SMM Steel canopy, Outback Drawers, dual battery with 2 x 160W solar panels (keeps the beers nice and cold), 135L tank, TJM T15 alloy bar with Xray-vision LED lights, Dumbo Clearview Mirrors. The ultimate tow truck.
Re: Savannah Way
No chance Bob, it's 90% rough dirt roads, especially up through Hells Gate and into Roper, no place for an on road van mate.Bob wrote:Interesting subject, what about taking an on-road van. Is this sealed all the way as the few spots I "Street Viewed" showed single lane bitumen.

We towed our Coromal caravan along the Savannah Way a few years ago
It is rough and you need to take it steady
