It was a bit slack of me not to congratulate jacko on a very good effort with the net when I got that flattie. I use an Environet but it's not really suitable for bigger fish as it is quite inflexible and there is a bit of a knack to being a good netter...especially when it comes to things like bigger flatties when you are using relatively light line. One twist of the head and it could all be over. Anyway...jacko got it first go and it was a good effort...it's always a bit nerve racking when someone else does it. :( :o :D

Hey Jacko,

Sorry we didn't end up getting a chance to head up to the High Country earlier. We're definitely heading up this weekend, and will stay for around 8 nights. We'll have our camper trailer, and my sister's family is coming in their Patrol. Planning to camp at Pineapple Flat for a few nights, then move camp around the other side near Dargo somewhere for the remaining nights.

Is there any better campsites that might have less people during this peak period? Any other advice or tips would be welcome! Also wanting to catch some Trout, can you point me in the right direction here too? :)

Cheers!

A camp where there is not a lot of people this time of year is almost impossible to find , even last Sunday there was already a lot of campers that looked like they had settled in for Xmas
What way are you coming from Pineapple to Dargo ?

Not sure which way we'll head, I bought the Hema High Country book so I need to have a good squizz at that I think. I'd like to go a more 'interesting' way, but it's hard to tell which tracks I can get the camper trailer through (mainly switchbacks I'm worried about)

What about King Billy past Bluff and Lovicks Huts to the Howitt Rd to Arbuckle Junction, Moroka Rd to Pinnacles Fire Lookout then down Billy Goats to Wonnangatta Rd to Dargo from there .

If you didn't want to do Billy Goats with a trailer you could go via Castle Hill Tk , Junction Spur , Scrubby Creek Tk to Crooked River Rd to Dargo

Probably the biggest PITA is meeting a convoy of vehicles coming the other way on narrow sections of track , it can be bad enough finding somewhere to pass without a trailer

Rooftops - Dargo -Wonnangatta Adventure Map is probably the best for that area .

Well our trip got cancelled :( My sister's family decided not to go at the last minute, and I've been sick so I haven't had time to get some pre-trip maintenance done. Missus and I will head off to The Grampians instead (hopefully tomorrow arvo).
