Dmax shutter / vibration in the Auto transmission area?

Post by Can not fix it »

2023 utes less than 20,000 ks. Is anyone suffering from a Dmax shutter of vibration in the Auto transmission area? we have four Utes that have had the problem since new! Isuzu cannot fix them. two of them have had the auto-trans replaced and the problem still remains

When you say SHUTTER, do you mean SHUDDER as in shuddering feeling felt in vehicle? Not sure if the Dmax and the Colorado have same transmission but the Colorado develops a fault in one of it's spool valves in the forward valve body which makes the lock up clutch open and close all the time when it should be closed.
Can you be more specific when and what gear or any other specific situational observations, other then simply stating it does it?.

Having the auto trans replaced should fix the above situation though. If it still does it, it may be the tail shaft isn't engaged in the rear of TC sufficiently to be it stable and not wobbling under load.
If the vehicles have suspension raised a little, the uni angles may be way out of whack and causing the tails aft to try and gyrate and not simply spin.
Not surprised the dealer can't fix it, they are notoriously bad at finding faults, firstly because of incompetence and there is no incentive to find a fault from a company perspective.

So what, where, when, under load, on decell, or accell, loaded vehicle, unloaded, cruising, etc all provides a means for a diagnosis. otherwise it is guestimation.

thanks for the reply,
This occurs at speeds above 40km and in 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th and at speeds on the highway 110km the shuddering is quite violent.

Thinking logically, if it happens throughout the range and worse when at higher speed, I presume the frequency of the shudder alters as well. IF SO, Maybe check the tailshaft for any bend Or if the tailshaft has a slip joint or centre bearing, are the two yokes on the tailshaft IN LINE WITH EACH OTHER??? I cannot see your vehicle, but the yokes HAVE TO BE in line of the vibes are NOT cancelled out, as it is normally. If any work was done on the vehicle, it may be the person doesn't know much about vehicles, but can Monkey See, Monkey Do, reassembly.
The tailshaft if NOT BENT, may have had a balance weight attached to it, for balance reasons and it could be missing. LOOK FR ANY Patch which has had a spot weld on it! A large hose clip around the shaft might make it better or worse, If worse, alter the hose clip weighty bit to the other side, ie, 180dgerees. and try again. Trail nd error here.
If the Pinion flange /uni has ever been unbolted it may not be sitting squarely in it's spigot and causing the tailshaft to run out of balance. One of the tailshaft uni cup CLIPS may have come out or never fitted and the whole univeral centre is running OFF cantre and throwing the tailshaft into an eccentric/cam like rotation path, = VIBES.

Sounds like an unbalanced tailshaft - but I can't believe four new utes were delivered with unbalanced tailshafts.
Did Isuzu look at the prop shaft balance before their desperate throw of the dice in replacing the automatic gear boxes?
If you have a Hardy Spicer service centre nearby get them to check the worst of the ute's driveshafts.
