Anyone know if you can buy such a cage for a D-Max?
I'm thinking that I'm going to have to design and weld one up myself, so any ideas/suggestions welcome. I've seen pictures of what other folk have come up with for other vehicles, welded rebar for example.

Isn't your Cat positioned just after the turbo? I haven't looked on new models so it may be further down. OR, is it the Particulate filter you are referring to?

I think that you maybe right, it's a 2013 2.5L model, I recently had to replace the rear box (silencer) to get it through the MOT, I noticed that the next section (center pipe) is just as rusty so that will need replacing soon no doubt, the following section that's bolted to that, I assumed were the cat but now looking at this site, it's a DPD. Look at the price though, it's acutaly more expensive than the cat.

What on earth is causing the rust on exhaust components? Isn't your whole system stainless steel everything? Ours are stainless. Even the normal steel exhaust on a diesel lasts for many many years. My Landcruiser lasted 200,000km and 25 years and sold all working. If coated with crap on the outside doesn't mean it needs replacement as your rear silencer did. Is the MOT man simply making easy money by claiming what traditionally rusted out on a petrol engine is also same on a diesel/

Mydmax, it's normal for exhausts systems to rust out here in the UK, even the OEM ones, some of the cheap after market ones can start to fail after 2 or 3 years so 8 to 10 years from an original is good going.
I replaced the back box myself before even going to the MOT guy, I could see the tail pipe section coming away from the box itself. I asked him to give me his opinion on what I thought were the cat at the time, I know that the centre pipe hasn't got much life left in it so wondering if I should replace the cat at the same time too. He thinks that section is okay for now though, although he did say that he's had to replace cats on other vehicles, Ford for example told him that their lifespan is 100k miles or 10 years,....a replacement cat from them often costs more than the vehicle is worth by then.
