Hi all.

Post by Mut59G »

Hey all, I have recently bought a 2014 MUX for every day use and towing our 16ft van. We are in Brisbane. So far we are pretty happy with it. However a couple of gremlins to sort out. The drivers window has stopped working and my investigation has found that one of the motor brushes has disintegrated. Also the roof mounted video screen plastic section holding the hinges is beyond repair and the remote control is missing so we can't see if it actually works. Any suggestions for sorting these things would be fantastic, apart from going to Isuzu and buying new replacement parts, which would be my last option after exploring others.
Cheers, Gordon

G'day Gordon,
If needing the window to get working quickly, you can fairly easily swap the RHR window motor or brush set or whole body to the drivers door, depending on construction. That gives time to source some spares. RHR is rarely used and should be in near perfect condition. Many window motors are the same in other makes as well, so if the electric motor bits can't be sourced from a wrecker from an Isuzu product, other brands will be the same. You may have to cut and shut the wiring though. Rear windows are less used and so represent good options. I used to work after hours for a wrecker and changed/ repaired, substituted many winders and even changed quadrants on arms on pinion and gear units.
Even a mangled window mechanism should be cheap but the motor internals will be usable. Aim for the rears though. For the price of an Isuzu replacement, you could buy all the winder motors from a suitable wreck.
If that winder and drum has seen a lot of use, ie, brushes stuffed, it may be worth it to get the motor and geared drum to graft into the cable mechanism.
Can't help with the screen though, not familiar with that bit.

Thanks for this. I actually did think about pinching the one from the back, but someone said that the drivers one has 6 pins for the auto function, and the others have less and a different socket.

AH that someone is at work again. Yes, the controlling wiring may have more wires for the drivers window switch but the forward or reverse operation of the circuitry is, current applied one way or the other to the two motor wires. Therefore, changing the whole motor or armature and magnet outer housing should fix your problem.
All the limit current control and travel to end is governed by the door switch section in most vehicles, it has the current limit cutout as part of it's design. in the event the current limit and on cutout control at end of travel is at the motor, the motor internals are still a motor sensitive to direction of applied voltage/current. I always ask who that someone is!

Okay, that's good to know. I found some on line for the DMax, but the listing said that they were not compatible with the MUX. I thought most components were the same.
